Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbaek, Michael Pitt, Chin HanPlot: The future has advanced robotics to the point of putting human brains into robots, Major being the first success, but she can't remember who she is.Runtime: 140 odd minutes.Review: First and foremost I want to address the whitewashing that everyone says is the worst thing Hollywood has ever done. I firmly disagree with this and while I don't necessarily think white people should be the highest paid, or most known, or go to choice, I DO think that the role should go to the best actor/actress for the job. Scarlett Johansson is genuinely a very great actress, she's smart, fun, beautiful and commands attention in a room full of anyone. The right person for the role. In this exact instance where everyone is complaining that she's white in a Japanese animated movie spin off and it doesn't matter if she was white in the cartoon, that it's implied that she's Asian because it's an Asian cartoon... she's a damn robot guys. She could have been blind with no hair and a Mr. McGreg (with a leg for an arm and an arm for a leg, Simpsons reference). It doesn't matter, worry about the acting talent and not the colour of their skin. That being said, I really enjoyed this movie. I hadn't seen the original animated version for a long time, so I am unsure if it's accurate to the cartoon or how much they screwed up on it, to be honest i didn't really care about that. I went to see a great actress in a fun movie. The plot line was one that has been used a lot before, but with a twist that she's a robot with a human head. She basically has amnesia and is trying to figure out who she is. Tried and true, stay the course.Visually, even without Scarlett Johansson, this movie may have been one of the most appealing movies I have ever seen. It takes place in a "Neo Tokyo" type of environment where there are massive hologram ads for things in the street and while there were some that were a hundred feet tall they still sort of found a way to be understated, which was kinda neat. All in all, the movie seemed, to me anyways, to be slow moving and the dialogue was really not great, but then I remembered it was a remake of a cartoon from like...30 years ago and they're probably keeping it the same style of movie and dialogue as the not have a flock of angry nerds throwing inhalers at them constantly. Then I also got the second half f the movie, which is basically just action and killing throughout, I think there's a vampire in there too! (there isn't a vampire, I said that to make people angry, hopefully it worked)Not really too much to say about this movie that won't spoil it for you guys, so I'll basically leave it at this point. But don't let the whitewashing of Hollywood blind you from seeing great actors and actresses in great roles. I'd see this movie again, she's just so pretty, I mean it's just so pretty. I mean both guys, I mean both.
