So for this week's director spotlight I chose to do Steve Soderbergh, probably most well known for the Ocean's trilogy, though I'm unsure if he's doing the reboot with the all girls cast, "Ocean's 8". I assume they're only doing eight because women aren't as good of actors as men, amiright? Right boys, women are awful!! Seriously, I love women actors and like the idea of all women casts because they have a completely different dynamic than men. Before I dig myself a deeper grave, let's start this marathon!Erin Brockovich (2000): Julia Roberts stars as the title character who gets a job as a legal assistant who helps bring down a California based utility company for polluting the water in California. Minutes Left in the Day: 1,310Traffic (2000): A hard ass judge is tasked with taking down the drug industry in the United States, only to find out that his daughter is a drug addict! Minutes Left in the Day: 1,163Ocean's 11 (2001): George Clooney leads an all star cast of actors and actresses in this remake of a classic about eleven people who scheme a heist of three of the biggest Las Vegas casino's. I like this movie, but more than that I like describing the movie because it lets me say scheme AND heist in one description. Minutes Left in the Day: 1,046 Solaris (2002): Another Clooney movie where he plays a psychiatrist who is sent to another planet to evaluate a crew on a research station. A weird movie, pretty slow moving. Minutes Left in the Day: 948Ocean's 12 (2004): Clooney gets the gang back together in this sequel to the remake where they have to steal a giant faberge egg I think? It's an egg, but I am not versed in the art world, just know it's worth a whole thwack of money. Not as good as the first one, still kind of fun to see all these guys together. Minutes Left in the Day: 823Che´ (2008): Benicia Del Toro stars as Che´Guevara in this two part cinematic journey of his life and struggles as he tries to overthrow Cuban leader Fulgencio Batista. It's a two part movie, so it's pretty long, but does a good job throughout. Minutes Left in the Day: 566The Informant! (2009): Just after Matt Damon finished the Ocean's AND Bourne trilogies, he stars in this true life adaptation about a vice president turned government informant in the world of Agriculture. Minutes Left in the Day: 458The Girlfriend Experience (2009): The first "real" movie for ex porn star Sasha Grey, she plays a high end call girl who struggles to make all ends meet, between clients, boyfriends and her work. Set during the election year of 2008 it was a pretty good drama movie and I like me some Sasha Grey, she's a pretty good actress. Minutes Left in the Day: 381Contagion (2011): As the title states, there's a contagion across the United States and a task force with the CDC has to find a cure while there's still time. Minutes Left in the Day: 275Haywire (2012): A straight action movie starring ex-MMA athlete Gina Carano, it has her playing a "burnt" black-ops soldier who's trying to find answers for out who betrayed her, no matter the cost. Has a good cast with Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum and Michael Douglas. Also, some pretty good action scenes in it. Minutes Left in the Day: 182Magic Mike (2012): Channing Tatum returns to work with Soderbergh in this semi autobiographical tale of Tatum's past as a male stripper who gets a crew of guys together to attend a clothes off pose off with the preps from across the lake! Wait, I got mixed up a lot there. It's a fun movie that has a lot of attractive men helicoptering for women. I assume there's a plot too. Minutes Left in the Day: 72 While a lot of people pigeon hole Soderbergh for his work in the Ocean's trilogy (I didn't put the third on here because it wasn't worth having 3 in a marathon about him), his work spans a lot of genres and I hope this helps some people give him a first, second or even third chance.
