Review: Man I loved this movie. I know a lot of people panned it because they hate fun, or they wanted it to be a crappy reboot like so many other movies nowadays, but it wasn't.
Shane Black, the director of this movie (also directed both The Nice Guys and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) helped write and starred in the first movie from 1987. Not enough people trusted his directing chops, nor his comedic timing and slammed this movie. I did both things, going in thinking it was going to be fun, enjoyable and that I was going to love Sterling K Brown. All of those things were a success.
Admittedly I knew I was going to like it before I saw it. I like all the actors in it, including Boyd Holbrook from his stint in 2017's Logan. I can't picture too many people who would have done better than he did. I am a huge fan of how action stars have gone from the Stallone's and Arnie's to just a good, average guy who can kick ass when need be.
The plot of this movie is decently basic, but has an ok twist in it, with there being a second predator predating the first predator for reasons unknown, thought they do guess.
The music was so very 80's and very much reminded me of The Monster Squad (which Black also had a hand in), which made it all the more enjoyable to me.
If I have a complaint about this movie it's that they didn't use enough practical effects. You can see a chunk of CGI and that partially took me out of a moment or two in the movie, but not enough that I wouldn't enjoy it.
I would say see it if you love 80's action, 80's horror or any type of fun.
