Starring: Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, Mads MikkelsenPlot: Jyn Erso embarks on a voyage to steal the plans to the Death Star to help save the rebellion from the Empire.Runtime: 2h14mReview: I'll avoid spoilers as much as humanly possible for this review, so here we go.I went into this movie with a decent amount of skepticism as I basically knew the entire plot ahead of time. Not via any research or putting any effort into it, but because they literally just tell you what the movie is about in the trailers. The reason this made me skeptical was because... anyone who has paid attention to Star Wars movies should know exactly how this movie will go. That being said this was a decently enjoyable movie. I cannot say as I think it was amazing by any stretch of the imagination, nor can I say it was a bad movie. A solid high 7/10 for me.It was a gorgeous movie, the effects that had already been eclipsed from the 77 movie, to the 99 movie, to last year are still getting better. The filming locations for the movie include Iceland and the Maldive Islands, so it's just beautiful to look at as well. Not really a spoiler, but they CGI'd Peter Cushing to reprise his role of Grand Moff Tarkin and he looked immaculate. The music was done by Michael Giacchino, who added onto the John Williams scores to make them his own and they were fantastic. The acting was pretty okay. I was happy to see Donnie Yen get a push into the Western world as I think he's awesome and equally as happy that Mads Mikkelsen is getting more and more known over here as well. Alan Tudyk (better known as Wash from Firefly fame) does a voice and I'm glad that they got someone who has a good voice and isn't ultra famous. I enjoyed Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, he seemed like a BoBo Inigo Montoya to me, which is always a win. The only person I was not a big fan of was Felicity Jones. She just didn't pop to me as the main character at all. Seemed like they were trying to do a cross between Han and Leia with English sass. She was fine, but just not for me I suppose. There were an abundance of Easter Eggs in the movie, so many lead ins to the 77 classic, which was both nice and unnecessary at the same time. Nice because it brings a certain amount of fun nostalgia, but unnecessary as it leads into a movie many of us have seen a dozen times. It was a very linear movie. When I found out what the plot was I basically knew all of the points it was going to get to and didn't disappoint in that, which may be disappointing in a sense. As it was the first "Extended Universe" movie that we've seen from Disney, not a bad thing that they didn't stray too far as it could have gone a bit wonky for them.I did enjoy that it wasn't a typical Star Wars movie in the way that it was more of a war movie and less of a Jedi movie. You see people storming beaches and a lot more of the militaristic side of the Universe, which was pretty cool. There's one awesome scene with an AT-AT where it comes out of the mist and it just look super badass to me.Despite it's two hour runtime, it was a decently fast watch as well. If you're a Star Wars fan see the movie, but don't go in thinking it's going to change the world for you. It you aren't a Star Wars fan, I mean... don't see it? It's a lot of space stuff and war-ish stuff, so you may not like it? I don't know what goes through your head realistically. It was fun though.
